🔗 Share this article Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends. The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting. The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the pit straight. The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
