In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
