Cyclone the storm is projected to escalate to a rare highest-level hurricane as it veers in the direction of Jamaica, causing life-threatening sudden floods and landslides.

This weather system, which registered wind speeds of up to 120 mph as of 6:00 AM GMT, is now shifting toward the northwest in the Caribbean and is expected to hit the coast by early next week, as reported by meteorological authorities.

Alerts of electricity outages and structural damage have been announced as Melissa brings up to 76cm of precipitation and sea level surges as high as thirteen feet above ground. "Find safe refuge immediately," residents have been told.

Melissa is the 13th storm in the ongoing Atlantic season, which usually concludes in November.

Category Five Cyclone Risk

A Category 5 cyclone is the strongest type, with sustained winds of at least 157mph.

Even though the hurricane is projected to diminish in strength to a category four hurricane before arriving at Jamaica, meteorologists said there was "minimal real distinction in the total effects" upon landfall, and that the storm will be "at least that intensity" when it strikes the island.

Advisories are also active for regions of the neighboring country including the primary urban center, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where Melissa is anticipated to bring comparable impacts by the midweek period.

Rock slides already being caused by the cyclone have caused two deaths in Haiti, according to emergency services.

This weather system is projected to cross Cuba by the middle of the week before traveling via the Antillas Mayores and entering the Atlantic.

By the time it makes contact with the Caribbean nation, it is predicted to have reduced to a third-level cyclone.
